A message from Michael, our Chief Pilot, regarding choosing the launch site
I will choose the launch site for your flight once I have the most up to date forecast. For a morning flight this will be at 22:00 the night before. For an evening flight it will be at 14:00 on the day of your flight. The reason I make this decision so close to the flight time is that the accuracy of the short term forecasts is much greater.
You might be disappointed that the launch site chosen isn’t closer to your home, but that might give us a flight into controlled airspace or even into the sea… I have been flying since 1998 all around the world, but mostly in Kent, so you’ll just have to trust my decision!
A quick internet search will show disappointed customers from some companies who have more than 20 pilots and allow you to ‘choose’ your launch site from over 100 options, (even though each pilot may cover up to 12 of those launch sites and can only be in one at any time). They will often move you to a back-up launch site (that may not even be in the same county!) either for safety reasons or for their own convenience. If a flight gets cancelled you may have to wait quite some time to reschedule from your desired location.
As a family run business, we think it’s best not to disappoint passengers at short notice and so we are up front from the beginning. Whichever launch site I choose you won’t be disappointed as each have their own unique features. I actually don’t have a favourite – they’re all great!
